VISION

The Risk Management Office is defined by its expertise in providing services that protect the County and its physical and human assets against the adverse consequences of loss; by its success in minimizing the cost of the County’s Risk Management program; and by its ability to assist departments in reducing the risks associated with their day-to-day activities.

MISSION

Our mission is to support the County and its departments by:

  • Identifying both internal and external exposures to loss; selecting and implementing loss prevention or reduction methods; and monitoring results to improve future effectiveness.
  • Providing a sound, innovative risk financing program which combines risk retention techniques with the purchase of insurance to assure recovery from accidental loss.
  • Evaluating departmental activities to reduce risk to the extent practical; transferring risk to the parties best able to control it; and helping departments to make informed risk assumption decisions.
  • Promptly adjusting and paying legitimate claims while aggressively defending against claims where the County has no liability.
  • Supporting key decision makers by providing complete and timely information regarding the costs and benefits of the County’s Risk Management program.
  • Establishing and maintaining risk management policies and procedures which minimize “red tape” while maximizing protection to the County.

VALUES

To realize our vision and accomplish our mission, we will:

  • Respond to the public, to fellow County employees and to claimants in a courteous, professional and timely manner.
  • Seek training and educational opportunities that help us improve our Risk Management  knowledge.
  • Embrace change and innovative approaches which improve our ability to serve our customers.
  • Maintain honesty, integrity and reliability in all aspects of our work.
